Most of us don''t like to see the Summer season go... One minute it''s all about pool parties and BBQ''s and the next minute we look up and the leaves are starting to change color and the morning air feels a little cooler.
When we think of the coming winter many of us think of heavy foods, holiday shopping and parties, cold and flu season and fatigue (sorry, I know that''s a little depressing, but I have good news)! By taking a little time (2-7 days) to do a Fall detox you can prep your body and your mood for the cold days ahead, so that you can look forward to the winter months!
Here are the top 10 reasons you should do a Fall detox:

1. Detoxing clears space in the liver so toxins can be removed. Eliminating excess toxins helps to strengthen your immune system for the cold and flu season.
2. A Fall detox can help shed any excess "vacation weight" that you may have accumulated.
3. After a summer of sweet fruits and cooling foods, a detox is a great way to ease your body into the new foods that are available in the Fall. Consuming root vegetables, good quality oils and seasonal fruits start to build the body for the winter season.

Recipe of Month

Butternut Squash-Carrot Soup

2 Tbs olive oil
1 large yellow onion, chopped
1 butternut squash (about 1 1/4 lbs). peeled and coarsely chopped
3 large carrots, coarsely chopped
1/2 tsp sugar
1 tsp paprika
1 1/4 tsp ground cumin
3/4 tsp ground turmeric
3/4 tsp ground coriander
6 cups vegetable broth
salt and pepper to taste
1/3 cup chopped cilantro
1 Tbs fresh lime juice

In a large soup pot , heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and saute, stirring occasionally, until soft, about 10 minutes. Add the squash, carrots and sugar, saute, stirring for 10 minutes . Add the paprika, cumin, turmeric and coriander and continue to saute, stirring for about 10 minutes longer. Add stock and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to med-low and simmer, uncovered, until squash and carrots are soft, 30-40 minutes. Remove from heat. Using an immersion blender, puree the soup (you can also use a blender, just let soup cool slightly and blend in batches).
Season to taste with salt and pepper and stir in the lime juice and cilantro.
